Dinosaur Game
Games similar to Dinosaur Game
Dinosaur Game is the little T-Rex runner that Google built into Chrome back in 2014. It shows up as the offline error page, and you can play the same thing free here in your browser. The whole game is one pixel dinosaur running to the right while you keep it alive.
There is nothing to learn beyond two moves. You jump and you duck. The catch is that everything gets faster the longer you survive, so a run that feels easy at the start turns frantic once the cactus and birds start coming quickly.

What is Dinosaur Game?
It is a 2D endless runner with 8-bit graphics and a side-scrolling camera. You control a T-Rex that runs by itself across a flat desert. Obstacles scroll in from the right, and your only job is to clear them. There is no finish line. You go until you hit something, and your score is how far you got. The dino does not get faster controls or new abilities, so a long run is purely about reading obstacles and reacting in time. The game is also called T-Rex Runner, Chrome Dino, and Dino Run, depending on who you ask.
How to play
Press the spacebar to start the dino moving, then react to whatever scrolls toward you. Jump over things on the ground. Duck under things in the air. That is the entire control set.
| Action | Desktop | Mobile |
|---|---|---|
| Start the run | Spacebar | Tap the screen |
| Jump | Spacebar or up arrow | Tap |
| Duck | Down arrow | Hold or swipe down |
Reading the obstacles
Cactus sits on the ground, so you jump it. Birds fly across at different heights. A low bird you jump, but a high-flying bird you duck under instead of trying to leap over it. Picking jump or duck correctly is most of the skill once birds appear.
Obstacles you will meet
The set of hazards is small, which is why timing matters more than memorizing anything.
| Obstacle | What to do |
|---|---|
| Single cactus | Jump it |
| Cactus cluster | Jump early so you clear the whole group |
| Low bird | Jump over it |
| High bird | Duck under it |
Speed and scoring
Your score climbs the further you run, and the game speeds up as it climbs. That speed is the real difficulty, since the same jump that worked early now needs to start sooner. The counter tops out at 99999. Reaching it resets you back to zero, so that number is effectively the ceiling of a single run.
Tips for a longer run
- Start jumps earlier than feels natural once the speed picks up, because the dino covers more ground per second.
- Look at the height of each bird before you react. Ducking a high bird beats a panicked jump.
- Do not jump out of habit. A pointless jump leaves you in the air when the next obstacle arrives.
- Treat cactus clusters as one wide obstacle and clear them in a single leap.
- Keep your eyes ahead of the dino, not on it, so you read what is coming.
Why it stuck around
Google made this as a joke about being offline, a dinosaur for the prehistoric feeling of having no internet. It worked. The creators said in 2018 it was played about 270 million times a month. Part of that is that it is always there when a page fails to load, and part is that one more run is a quick ask when the controls are a single key. It started as a hidden feature and turned into something people open on purpose.
